Recipe for Dal ka Khagina

This is a Recipe for preparing restaurant or dhaba style Dal ka Khagina at home. A rich and spicy authentic Indian Gravy, tastes great with rotis, puris or rice.

Ingredients
1 Cup Channa Dal
½ Tea spoon mustard seed
A pinch of roasted asafetida
2 Green Chilies (chopped)
Salt to taste
½ Tea spoon Turmeric powder
2 Table spoon heaped grated coconut
1 Lime (sliced)
½ Tea spoon Red chili powder (optional)
¼ Cup Oil

Preparation
Soak the Dal in water for 4-5 hours. Wash well and grind fine. Sprinkle a little water. Heat Oil. Fry the mustard seed, asafetida, Turmeric, Chili powder and ground Dal. Cover and cook on a slow fire for 10 minutes or till the Dal becomes fluffy. Add Salt and cook again for another five minutes, Remove from heat. Add chopped green Chilies and Coriander. Arrange in a dish and garnish with grated coconut, Serve with slices on lime.
