This is a very simple step-by-step Recipe for making at home typical Maharashtrian Style Phodnicha Bhat. Phodni in Hindi means Tadka and Seasoning in English and that is exactly what this rice dish is; Seasoned or Tadka Rice.

Phodnicha Bhaat is a simple yet wholesome and filling main course rice dish consumed by a lot of Maharashtrian Middles Class Families. Leftover rice is also used by many people to make Phodnicha Bhaat, which can also be a part of the Tiffin Box meals when hard pressed for time.

Preparation Time: 15 Minutes
Serves: 2 Persons

Ingredients
3 Cup Rice (cooked)
1 Medium size Potato (boiled)
¼ Cup Coriander Leaves (chopped)
Salt as per taste

For the Tadka
1 Tablespoon Oil
1 Teaspoon Mustard Seeds
1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds
¼ Teaspoon Asafetida
1 Medium size Onion (chopped)
2 Green Chilies (chopped)
½ Teaspoon Red Chili Powder
¼ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder

Phodnicha Bhaat

Preparation:
While preparing Phodnicha Bhat you should prepare the Plain Rice 4-5 hours before preparing the Phodnicha Bhat and keep it aside.
Heat the Oil in a Kadai and add the Mustard Seeds, Cumin Seeds, Asafetida, Onion, Green Chilies, Potato pieces and sauté for 2-3 minutes.
Then add the Red Chili Powder, Turmeric Powder, and Salt, cooked Rice and mix it well and cover the kadai with a stainless steel plate and cook for 2-3 minutes.
Garnish with chopped Coriander and serve hot.
