Recipe for Vatli Dal

This is a simple Recipe for preparing Vatli Dal. This is a traditional and authentic Maharashtrian Chana Dal dish, which is a popular main course dish in the State of Maharashtra.

Preparation Time: 45 Minutes
Serves: 4 Persons

Ingredients
2 Cups Chana Dal
1 Big Onion
1 Table spoon Ginger-Garlic and Green Chili Paste
¼ Cup Coriander
¼ Cup Coconut (shredded)
Salt to taste

For Tadka
2 Table spoon Oil
1 Tea spoon Rai
1 Tea spoon Jeera
1 Tea spoon Hing
1 Tea spoon Turmeric
7-8 Leaves Kadipatta

Preparation
First Soak the Chana Dal for 5-6 hours and then drain the water. Then grind in to a thick paste.
After that heat the Oil add the Rai Jeera, Hing, and Onion and fry on the slow sim till the colour changes in to light brown. Then add the Ginger-Garlic paste, Turmeric and Salt then fry for 2- 3 minutes. Then add the grounded Chana Dal mixture and mix it nicely and cook till dry.
Serve Hot. While serving decorate with Coriander and Coconut.
