Recipe for Moong Dal Halwa

This is a simple and easy to understand Recipe for preparing at home tasty and delicious Moong Dal Halwa, which is a most famous and popular Mithai in most North Indian States of India. Moong Dal Halwa is also considered to be speciality Sweet Dish in Rajasthan.

The preparation method of this version of the Moong Dal Halwa is uncomplicated and can be easily prepared at home by new home-makers.

Moong Dal Halwa also makes a great after lunch or dinner Dessert dish, which can be be served warm or along with Ice-Cream.

Preparation Time – 60 Minutes
Serves – 4 Persons

Ingredients
½ kg Moong Dal (green)
1 Cup Ghee
1 Cup Sugar
1 Litre Milk
100 g Mawa
¼ Tea spoon Saffron Essence
½ Tea spoon Saffron Colour
2-3 Green Cardamoms
2-3 Cloves

Preparation
Soak Dal overnight, wash and remove husk. Grind coarsely in the mixer at speed 1 for 15 seconds. (Blade : Dry Grinder)
Heat Ghee in a deep pan and lightly fry green Cardamoms, cloves, cinnamon.
Reduce heat and add the ground Dal. Fry on medium heat to a golden brown colour. Reduce heat and add milk.
When milk thickens, add Sugar and Saffron. Fry till Ghee separates. Add mawa, mix well and remove from heat.
Garnish with Badams (Almonds)
