This is a Recipe for preparing at home typical Maharashtrian Style Hirvya Matar or Green Peas Usal. The Tajya Hirvya Matar Chi Usal or Fresh Green Peas Usal described in this article is an authentic Usal preparation for the main course meals in Maharashtra.
Preparation Time: 30 Minutes
Serves: 6 Persons
1 Kg Green Peas
4-5 Green Chilies
1 Cup Coriander
1 Cup Coconut shredded
6-7 Garlic Cloves
2 Table spoon Oil
Salt & Sugar to taste
1 Tea spoon Rai
½ Tea spoon Hing
½ Tea spoon Turmeric
Soak the Green Peas in Water for 10-15 minutes and keep aside.
Grind the Coriander, Green Chilies and Garlic, this is the Green Masala.
Heat the Oil in a frying pan add the Rai, Hing, Turmeric and Green Peas and then mix them nicely and cover with a lid then put some water on the lid. Cook the peas for 10 minutes on a slow sim.
When Green peas are cooked add the grounded green Masala, mix it nicely and cook for 5 minutes on slow sim.
Then add Coconut and serve hot with Chapatti.
