Step by step recipe for Rasam

This is a easy step by step Recipe for preparing restaurant style South Indian Rasam at home. This is one of the most popular of the south Indian main course recipes. Rasam is taken along with rice or it can be simple taken as a drink; a must in every meal in the south.

Ingredients
150 Gram Red Gram (Tur Dal)
450 Gram Tomatoes (cut in small pieces)
20 Gram Tamarind (soaks and then prepares pulp)
2 Tea spoon Rasam Powder (masala)
1 Table spoon Coriander (cut in small pieces)
Salt to taste
5 Cups Water

For Tadka
1 Table spoon Oil
¼ Tea spoon Mustard Seeds (Rai)
10-12 Curry leaves
½ Tea spoon Asafetida (hing)
½ Tea spoon Kali Mirch powder (Black Chili powder)

Preparation
First of all wash the Red Gram and then add 2 cups of water and cook for approximately 5 minutes in a pressure cocker; then stir the Dal nicely.
After that add 3 cups of water, Tamarind, Salt, Hing, Rasam powder, and Tomatoes. Mix it well and cook for 10 minutes on a slow sim.
After that prepare the tadka and add it to the Dal mixture. While serving garnish with Coriander
