Maharashtrian Style Broad Beans Bhaji

This is a step-by-step Recipe for making at home authentic Maharashtrian Style Broad – Fava Beans Bhaji. This Vegetable dish, which is known as the Valpapdi Bhaji in Marathi is prepared using the full Broad Bean Pods with the Beans inside them.

Broad Beans Bhaji Preparation Time: 15 Minutes
Serves: 3 Persons

Ingredients
250 Grams Broad Beans [Full Pods with the Beans inside]
¼ Cup Coconut (shredded)
¼ Cup Coriander (chopped)

For the Tadka
1 Tablespoon Oil
1 Teaspoon Mustard Seeds
1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds
¼ Teaspoon Asafetida
¼ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
¼ Teaspoon Red Chili Powder
1 Teaspoon Masala (black)
Salt as per taste
Jaggery as per taste

Preparation
Remove the pointed ends of the Bean Pods and chop then into to ½ “pieces. Then wash and keep them aside.
Shred the Coconut and chop the Coriander.
Heat the Oil in a kadai, add Mustard Seeds, Cumin Seeds, Asafetida, Turmeric Powder, pieces of Broad Beans, and mix it well.
Cover the Kadai with a stainless steel plate, add some Water over the plate, and cook for 10-15 minutes on a slow flame.
Remove the plate and add the Salt, Red Chili Powder, Black Masala, Jaggery, Coconut, Coriander and ¼ Cup Water.
Mix it well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
Serve the Broad Beans Bhaji with Chapatti or Bhakri.
