Recipe for Bread Upma – Chivda

This is a Recipe for Bread Upma or Bread Chivda – Usal Maharashtrian breakfast dish using bread along with some common spice to prepare a simple, yet tasty snack. You can also use, yesterdays leftover bread slices for making this Upma.

Preparation Time: 20 Minutes
Serves: 4 Persons

Ingredients
Six Bread Slices
One Small Onion (chopped)
One Small Potato (boil, peel and cut)
Two Green Chili (cut)
One Small Lemon Juice
1 Teaspoon Sugar
2 Tablespoon Coconut (grated)
¼ Cup Coriander (chopped)
Salt as per taste

For the Tadka
1 Tablespoon Oil
1 Teaspoon Mustard Seeds
1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds
5-6 Curry Leaves
¼ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder

Preparation
Cut the bread into small pieces, add Lemon Juice, Sugar, and mix it well.
Heat the Oil in a Kadhai and add the Mustard Seeds, Cumin Seeds, Curry Leaves, Onion, Green Chilies and fry for two-three minutes on a slow flame then add Salt, Turmeric Powder, mix it well.
Then add the Bread pieces, Coriander, grated Coconut and mix it well. Then fry for two minutes on a slow flame.
Garnish with Coriander and Coconut and serve hot.
